Improvisation in music, you should be in the form of art more accessible. Almost everyone understands music well enough to have fun and know exactly what he or she likes. And materials of Western harmony are really very simple. So we thought, why so many people that improvisation is something complicated and difficult, reserved for more advanced musicians? In this article I want five major myths that many people talk about discovering the joy and fun to avoid improvisation.

Myth 1: You need to know to improvise a lot of music theory.

For many people to cover their first encounter with “music theory” can be a confusing and depressing. For some, it may be enough to convince them that they will never understand the music. But the good news for everyone who dreams of them is a theory of musical improvisation, which has done very little to do with improvisation.

What surprises most people, but I can prove it in two sentences:
1) Most teachers of music theory can not improvise.
2) Most improvisers do not think about the theory, when they play.

As someone who has devoted much of his life to studying music and music theory, I must say that I somehow “against” the theory of music. But my point is simply that this is not the theory of music itself, which can create music improvisers.

What allows musicians to improvise their ability, the sounds of our musical system to display on your instrument. Music Theory is the only system that has guided their studies while they were developing this capability for viewing.

And traditional courses in music theory are not the only way to develop this vision. In fact, I learned to improvise almost none of the major improvisers of history, studying the theories and formulas. You can study a theory later in life, but almost all have learned through direct, personal experience with the sounds of our musical improvisation.

The same experience that all beginners need to have for each other improvisers. You do not need endless theories and formulas to tell them what notes to play. What they need is a direct and personal experience of making music with the sounds of our musical system. A teacher has a duty to use that experience to students in a way, in a fun challenge, exciting and creative ways to organize.

Myth 2: Improvisation is “taught.” Not

Truly improvised music comes straight from the imagination. In a sense, this myth is rooted in a part of the truth. Nobody has to “teach” what to play, because everyone has the natural ability to imagine and beautiful music.

But most people have no idea how to connect with this capability. How to enjoy the game with the sounds of our musical system, see if you may not even know where they are located?

For over ten years since I taught musical improvisation for all instruments. Many of my students are beginners who have never improvised before in your life. But each was able to improvise when they heard the sound (this is another way of saying “the sounds of our musical system”) to see on your instrument.

So it is true that, to “teach” anyone about the things you need is already in its creativity, playfulness, musical sensitivity and taste. But nearly everyone needs help at first, just to see where the different sounds, so they can get to work, happy with them.

In my opinion, to help people visualize the ability to develop harmony is directly on your instrument, which really means “teaching” to improvise.

Myth 3: chords and harmony are very complicated.

Our first experience with exciting and mysterious harmony can. If you scratch a few chords that I learned on guitar, you know how much is a pretty nice series of chords is played repeatedly, and only hear the sounds.

But you also know the frustration of not being able to see the “big picture”. Why are these other agreements, and not one? And because the melody so perfectly with the harmony? How can I write a song of my own?

I want you to understand that there is nothing complicated chords and harmony. Just like a painter mixing colors in a different color to create very specific notes for musicians combining certain sensations, which we call agreements occur.

The only reason that harmony seems complicated to most people, because they never have the opportunity to experience an organized way. Shows to play a song on the guitar, you only option. It’s like watching a late painting. But this is not to teach you how to mix colors. The way’ll just teaching, as are the colors by mixing the color mix!

And that’s exactly what you need with chords and harmony. You do not need a million rules and theories about how the agreements are used “allegedly”. But you have not yet mastered harmony with the music as well.

What you need is someone to sit down and show you the raw materials of our music. They are there and working with these materials themselves, and really know. You should see for yourself how we combine notes to various agreements, and you have to improvise and compose their own music with these new sounds.

Dive into the world of harmony can be fun, fascinating and beautiful. The trick is how to enter and explore the world of his own, and that’s really what I teach to improvise for real.

Myth 4: I think it can not “go with the flow.”

One of the saddest consequences of not knowing how to improvise is that so many people to believe it has something of an anomaly that prevents them from staff to be creative, have causes. Sometimes, friends or other musicians trying to encourage us to “go with the flow” and just play “what comes of it.” But this is very unfair for someone who was never improvised before.

What shall we play? You feel as if there’s a million notes on your instrument and they all sound bad! But you’re not alone, and that the problem has nothing to do with his qualities as a person. No matter how “water” will help you something you can not see to see. As the game with the sounds of our musical system, see if you can not even know where they are?

Everyone has the natural ability to imagine and beautiful music. You just need a little help to see the materials of your technology so you can get to work, happy with them. Once you have that will help you be on your way to experience the thrill of improvisation and composing his own music.

More importantly, you’ll discover a side of yourself that you did not know you had. And you realize that you can be the best of them to “go with the flow!”

Myth 5: You need to learn to improvise licks models and techniques.

Today many people are teaching improvisation as a kind of technical expertise with the rules and formulas. Basically, they teach you the techniques directly into your soil to be able to play something that sounds good.

But while these techniques can effectively contribute to a healthy person very knowledgeable and professional, I personally think that this approach misses the point kind of improvisation. For me, the whole question of learning to improvise, so we can explore and express our own imagination.

This seems a little “off”, but bear with me for a minute. I want you to try again to remember your childhood, all the way back to your first dream of becoming a musician. What was the dream home?It was to learn the techniques and formulas, so your solos sound that is “correct?” Did you want to improvise, because you know how great it feels to express themselves creatively imagined through the music?

I think there is something much more valuable at stake than just learning a few tricks to impress the neighbors. For many of us can learn to improvise to be our only chance, our whole life to discover our own creativity and really make music that is unique to express ourselves.

So my advice is do not rush to learn all the licks and tricks for you to sound just like anyone else. It is much more interesting to learn to improvise and really enjoy the discovery process to find their own voice through the beautiful music.

What are the myths?

I hope you found this article to be helpful, stimulating and inspiring. They do not understand or agree with everything I say.But learning to think differently about these is the crucial first step to mastering the music.

These underlying attitudes are what we call “inner game” of musical creativity, and clarity in these areas is actually improvise an important part of learning. I encourage you to examine your own beliefs and attitudes to these ideas. You do not have to accept my beliefs, but just to start thinking about these questions for themselves. Note that if you “myths” from them, you stop, you have to explore your creative side.
